DEVELOPING AN EVIDENCE-BASED PROPOSAL: FOUNDATIONS TO STUDY
ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS
OVERVIEW
During the past few weeks of the course, the opportunity has been to use the Iowa Model as a
conceptual framework to guide the development of an evidence-based practice project. A trigger
was identified (from the scenario provided), a PICO/clinical question developed, a brief review
of the literature was conducted, the literature was evaluated as to its strength (Melnyk’s
framework) and the information from the articles was synthesized. In this assignment the next
steps will be taken to start the development of an evidence-based practice proposal. What will
you do with the steps developed to date and move forward with “this is what I plan on DOING”?
INSTRUCTIONS
In this assignment, you will complete the first part of a mock evidence-based practice (EBP)
proposal per the guidelines in the DNP Handbook as well as information gleaned in the text
reading. This is an opportunity to develop skills in drafting a proposal in preparation for the
development of an actual scholarly project when that time comes in the DNP Program.
Complete the following categories for an EBP project (based on the case scenario used in the
PICO development assignment and the literature review assignment. Use the clinical question
that was developed based on the PICO format as well as the 10 articles that were evaluated using
the article matrix. For this assignment address the following areas:
• Title Page per current APA format
• Abstract per current APA format
• Introduction (this may be combined with the background if necessary)
• Background
• Problem Statement (what brought you to the issue/trigger)
• Purpose of the Project (why are you doing this? Change in reported metrics, etc.)
• Clinical Question(s)
• Review of the Literature
Document the assignment in a Microsoft Word document using current APA format. Include a
title page and a reference list.
